Poor scientists. I read this great article in the New Yorker about this neuroscience whiz who’s looking at the time lags in perception and the basis of free will and consciousness in the neurons. And it was you know, a good dense 10-15 pages.

I had a strange realization as I was talking with some of my gringo friends—-my inner voice kept saying “not so fast! too fast!” And I realized, that I spend the highest proportion of my language time here in Chile not in Spanish, nor in English, but in modified slow English, with some tricky turns of phrases edited out. dilemma: should I be offended that they approved dams in patagonia to improve power to santiago [my friend felt tear gas in protests I guess, and when I walked home from work I had to change my route because there were a bunch of tanks and pooolice]?
